MidAmeriCon II, the 74th World Science Fiction Convention, received over 4,000 nominating ballots for this year’s Hugo Awards, nearly doubling last year’s record set by Sasquan. The complete list of Hugo finalists can be found here.
Congratulations to all of the nominees, especially Andy Weir, Kukuruyo, Jeffro Johnson, Razorfist, Jason Rennie, Larry Elmore, Toni Weisskopf, Jerry Pournelle, Neil Gaiman, Vox Day, Chuck Tingle, Stephen King, Brandon Sanderson, and Jim Butcher.
One category, though, has particular significance for me.

To all of the science fiction fans who selected the finalists for the 2016 Hugo Awards, especially my readers and Puppies of every description, I’m honored to make the following statement:
I accept the nomination for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.
Sincerest thanks to everyone who voted. Whatever the final outcome of this year’s Hugo Awards, I will continue writing stories that put fun and readers first, in the superversive tradition.

I find it impressive that you got there on your first year of eligibility. The other four are all in their second. Does this mean that if you do not win this year that you are eligible again for the 2017 Campbell?
I'm still trying to wrap my head around what you guys did–and I understand that I write the books, but this nomination is fundamentally an expression of the readers' will.
Honestly, I'm not even thinking about next year yet. The rules say an author gets two years of eligibility. Ultimately it's up to the award admins.

A chief reason that we succeeded, and that the CHORFs are left impotently flailing, is their utterly predictable behavior.
Larry had their number from the start when he called them out as an insular clique driven by political prejudice.
Now, on cue, all superversive SF is deemed to lack merit by people who admit to not reading it, and all RP nominations (except for File 770) are dismissed as political nepotism.
It's as if the opposition is making judgments about the quality of works beforehand based on politics. One might even say they're driven by political prejudice.
