Last year I predicted that if we rebuffed the SF SJWs’ attempt to establish a beachhead at Dragon Con, the Dragon Awards would grow beyond any group’s ability to control. In 2017 your votes ensured that SJW entryist John Scalzi didn’t become an albatross forever dangling from the Dragon’s neck. The results speak for themselves.
Check out this year’s winners’ circle. You’ve got Andy Weir, Brandon Sanderson, David Weber, Timothy Zahn, and Kevin J. Anderson to name a few. And yes, I note with some satisfaction that I’ve won the same award as Stephen King.
That’s two years in a row of Dragon voters recognizing industry leaders who sell tons of books. Not a CHORF in sight. In contrast, take a glance at the parade of Literally Whos that is this year’s Hugo winners.
Take special note of N.K. Jemisin’s third Best Novel Hugo win in a row. Consider that the SF SJWs managed to get her nominated for a Dragon Award last year–a nomination she declined. The fact that the CHORFs couldn’t even get her on the Dragon ballot this time confirms Jemisin backed out because she knew she couldn’t win a fair and open contest. It also adds to the mountain of proof that the Hugos are rigged.
Now, over the past year folks have been sharing their fears with me that Dragon Con’s weak response to SJW demands in 2017 boded ill for the Dragon Awards’ future. Allow me to dispel those fears.
That’s Mary Robinette Kowal, the SF SJW purse puppy who ruined Brandon Sanderson’s Writing Excuses podcast, getting the vapors over a sign at Dragon Con with the word “kek” on it.
For those who’re scratching their heads, “kek” is a Korean onomatopoeia for the sound of laughter made popular in online gaming. It’s part of the op run by the merry pranksters at 4chan to make the Left reveal how hysterically humorless they are by tricking idiot journalists into reporting perfectly harmless things as white supremacist symbols.
For context, here’s another example that’s risen to prominence recently: the OK sign as secret Nazi dog whistle.
Happily the Dragon Con admins passed MRK’s shit test with flying colors by ignoring her paint chip-eating retarded scolding.

Between the kek thing, the "hand gesture", and the "I'm fluent in 4chan" debacle, I'm starting to wonder just how close to the edge these losers are. What can be done to give them a final push over the edge? I'm guessing not much.

I wish i had your optimism. The senate sure but I’m not sure the GOP will hold the House. The RINO establishment has shown itself willing to fall on their own swords to spite Trump, their constituents, and America. Not to mention the GOP in general has this remarkable ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
It's not optimism. It's math. Democrat challengers must flip 17 out of 41 seats currently held by Republicans to take the House, and incumbents win 85% of the time.
The Dems need an actual Blue Wave to win a majority in the House. It could happen, but it's no more likely than the Red Wave some pundits on the right have predicted. The GOP has given their constituents no reason to vote for them, but the Dems' insanity, bolstered by Kavanaugh's confirmation next month and a major surprise by Trump–probably an EO or a DOJ lawsuit against Big Tech censorship–will drag the Republicans across the finish line to retain a razor thin majority in the House.
That’s fair. God bless Trump with the strength to drag the dead weight that is his own party establishment to victory – whether they want to win or not (evidently not)

One major perk of being an indie author is that I can answer that question completely and honestly. Strap in.
Brandon Sanderson is the last of a dying breed. There are still legions of aspiring authors vying for the Standard Rich and Famous Contract without realizing Sanderson took the last open slot. Even then tradpub couldn't quite get him on the A list. They could have if they hadn't wasted money and clout trying to make Scalzi a star.
The only Sanderson novel I've read is Elantris. It's a perfectly serviceable first novel, but there were already signs of the poz that's infected his later work.
It's a shame, since the first four seasons of Writing Excuses show that Sanderson knows his craft. If you've followed his career, you can chart his course from bright-eyed young Mormon willing to make some reasonable compromises with Modernity to willing Clown World apologist. It's an old story–the difficulty of dissuading people from what their paychecks depend on and so forth.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not calling Sanderson an SJW. He's a normie who's going along to get along. He's smart enough to know he's too straight, white, and male for the loons running his industry to ever fully embrace him. He lost the Campbell to Scalzi, and now Scalzi can't get arrested at World Con thanks to Jemisin. The fact that Sanderson is now winning Dragons hand over fist should be a wake up call.
Tradpub's impending collapse confronts guys like Sanderson with a stark choice. Unlike most trad authors, he could go indie, pump out books at pulp speed, and thrive without Tor holding him back. But he's big enough for the tradpub remnant to keep him around and sell his two yearly books at Costco. The choice is his, but I don't think it's much of a choice at all.
My writing friend whom I love as my own brother I told you about previously idolizes Brandon Sanderson. He just told me today soon he’s gonna sit and decide between trad pub or indie. Obviously, as I look after his best interests, I’ve been encouraging him to go indie and showed him the numbers. If he has any questions do you mind if i refer him to you via email? I plan on asking you and Brometheus though I have yet to ask him. He’s too much like Brandon Sanderson and much too late in the game to succeed as he did: Christian, male, straight, and pale as the driven snow. He loves storytelling as a passion and wants to make a living off of it

Not even Vox Day could get nominees on the ballot this year. Which honestly is a good thing. Dragon Awards now is too big to game, (Not that I doubt Vox couldn't still do it if he really wanted to, but he's busy these days.) Now it's just up to the voters, not cliques. There does seem to be a lot of Tradpub books up there this year, and few indies, but that is to be expected I think. Better publicity. That'll probably change as the market does. I hope at the Dragons continue to grow, they'll come up with awards for short fiction, and put in place the infrastructure for reader packets.
Sadly there is no replacement for the Nebulas, but to replace those, you would need to replace the SFWA, and there is some argument if we even need a SFWA, so that's probably not going to happen.

This is a minor thing I noticed: comic book movies count as sci-fi or fantasy? I’m not offended, I just find it further proof that rigid genre definitions leave gaps and sometimes you gotta shrug your shoulders and say “Screw it, it deserved an award.”
Definitely my philosophy.
I'm familiar with most of the people that won too. Unlike the "blink and you miss" hugos. Esp happy with the Military Sci Fi winner. That's a fun prequel series that has some of the old snappy action of earlier Harrington.
Maybe the Dragons will lead to more "Dunes" in the future. I wish the real Herbert would have been able to finish his series but at least he got the core 6 books out.
I imagine the Hugos will be lucky to last another 5 years. Then they will have to get Kickstarter to help fund Worldcon while the Dragons will keep eating everything.
The Hugos' largely geriatric constituents will also start shuffling off this mortal coil soon, leaving World Con to rainbow-haired freaks who can't run anything.
Maybe this book was better than "Call to Duty" which was so BORING I couldn't believe it was written by Weber, et al.

I can def. say that its more exciting then previous. I gotta wonder which parts are done by zahn and pope though. Mr. Weber is def. on the "OMG ITS A BRICK OF CHESS MANEUVERS!" Plus his "must describe in detail" is pretty much back. I feel its kinda in the middle of Flag in Exile meets In Enemy Hands. As far as tech vs dialog vs action. Maybe I'm just used to 800 page gorillas from him now that most times I'm not effected anymore. That could either be seen as good or bad, depending on pov. 😛
