General
Notes

When Tesla Browning took up the aegis of
Project S from the defunct Seed Corp, he endeavored to repurpose
Sekaino Megami’s superweapons against the Coalition. The VCD-2
would remain the centerpiece of the dread weapons system, but the
destroyer lacked a viable targeting module.

The Project S team submitted several
outboard targeting platform proposals. The idea of installing the
Vercingetorix laser targeting system in a fighter craft emerged as a
leading concept. Reasoning that a fighter’s high mobility and
integrated weapons would maximize ease of deployment while affording
the module built-in protection, a prototype was soon approved.

Browning Corp based the YFS-100 prototype
on Maximus Darving’s HVRJ-2 airframe. For extra defense, they added
carbyne laminar armor pioneered on the XCD-001-1. These design
elements enabled the fighter to perform unaided atmospheric entry
from outer space, greatly extending the VCD-2’s effective range.
Kazoku War ace Zane Dellister contributed a pair of wing-mounted
plasma cannons to give the fighter superior offensive capabilities.

Having produced a successful proof of
concept in the YSF-100, a test type unit, the YFS-101, was soon green
lighted. The test type resembled the prototype almost exactly, except
the HVRJ-2’s pair of nose-mounted Vulcan cannons was restored. The
caliber of the weapons was increased from 20mm to 30mm, granting
extra punch against small-medium support vehicles and personnel.

The YFS-101 was never intended for
deployment in the field. But when a shuttle carrying the One-Series
XSeed prototype crashed in the Taklamakan Desert in CY 20, Zane
himself piloted the testbed fighter in a desperate bid to rescue his
wife Dorothy. When Dorothy proved dead at the Socs’ hands, Zane
swore revenge, culminating in a suicide strike using the YFS-101’s
nuclear self-detonator.
