Author and musician David V. Stewart presents his expert rendition of my viral short story “A Gen Y Tale”.
Folks have been asking to hear my work in audio for years. Thanks to David, here’s your chance. Listen now!
From my biased perspective, I think David not only delivered a faithful performance, he substantially elevated the material. What do you think?
NB: It’s encouraging to see people born between 1979 and 1989 reclaiming the Gen Y label from the Madison Avenue memory hole. For those who are accusing me of trying to impose my interpretation of social phenomena on the zeitgeist, I’m an award-winning, best selling author. Getting to influence public discourse is a perk of the job.
So is filling the void left by dreary Death Cult propaganda with fun, escapist stories. Buy my space pirate horror novel now!
Before they were Gen Y they were called Echo Boomers because they were more of them than Gen X and they had Boomer parents.
One of the car companies (Ford?) had a big marketing push towards them in the mid to late 90s (Gen Y was reaching driving age)
But you're right, they were memory holed really quick around 1999/2000 and hit with the Millennial label
We went from being Gen X's younger siblings growing up in the late 80s/early 90s into being older siblings of "other" Millennials who have less in common with us than we do with Gen X.
Even wikipedia (which even has entries for Generation Jones) lumps them as Millennials (Generation Y) which they don't for any other category. If Silents and Jones exist, which they do, then so does Gen Y.
You'd think more would catch on that the categories don't make any sense by now.
More and more people are coming around.
