Star Wars Is Still Dead

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has renewed her contract with Disney for three years.

The re-up comes as the division gets back on solid footing following “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the Alden Ehrenreich Han Solo spinoff that suffered disappointing box office returns and behind-the-scenes drama after the studio dismissed directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller well into production. They were replaced by Ron Howard, who was tasked with bringing home the pricey standalone (which cost at least $250 million).

“Solid footing”? The woman who lost that same division eighty million dollars is having her tenure extended for three years. The division is standing on an oily patch of black ice in shoes stitched together from banana peels.

Star Wars is dead. It’s dead, and it’s not coming back. I know many of you cling to childhood nostalgia for a once-great franchise, but it’s past time to cut the umbilical cord. By continuing to follow and fund Star Wars, you’re only letting a direct poz pipeline into your life.

Yet I understand that such a denunciation requires an appealing alternative. That’s why I offer you #AGundam4Us. Support Combat Frame XSeed for your epic space battle needs!

The inside word was that she was on the chopping bock, but no one wanted to take her job. For obvious reasons. It was either her again, or nothing at all.

Which is just as well, because soon enough Star Wars will be nothing at all.

Wonder if it was the same inside source who told EVS Kennedy would be stepping down this month.

How empty will that Star Wars land be I wonder?

    • Brian Niemeier

Only as empty as we make it.

Also going further I'm not surprised these idiots can't make a good Star Wars product to save their life. Just reading any of the pulps shows you exactly where the roots (damn near rip off) of George Lucas' saga comes from. It's literally Barsoom with spaceships.

Yes. Even if it wasn't for the SJWs, much of pop culture would still be in a halt-state because all of today's film makers grew up watching Star Wars instead of reading ERB.

Not a big SW fan here. I watched the original trilogy, which I liked a lot, only a couple years ago at 22yo. I didn't grow up with it like so many others.

However, once I saw the sheer, unmistakable spite and malevolence that was The Last Jedi, I knew that it was likely they wouldn't kick her out. It may seem like hyperbole but TLJ is one of the few movies I've seen that rises to the level of being evil.

This movie isn't just a technically bad movie, with plot holes and such. It is a spiritually and morally bad one. The people who created it have NOTHING but contempt for all that is good. Disney will never again get a cent from me.

      Good for you.

Read NautOfEarth's comment, dear readers. And let us hear no more "Hit Disney in the wallet, and they'll go back to making good movies!" claptrap.

Go to John C. Wright’s blog and look at his 15-part critique (11 are up last I saw) of The Last Jedi.

Did you see a pre-1997 version? Before the “Special” Edition that was part of pop culture’s death? If not, try to find one. I have digital versions of them.

    • NautOfEarth

I forget which version. I'll remember to see a pre-97 version, though, if its better.

And Wright's critique has been great.

The "no one else would take it" argument makes s certain kind of sense. The 3rd movie in this trilogy is already in the works. If it tanks (a good bet), anyone taking over gets the blame. If you already have a solid career in Hollyweird (a prerequisite for being given the keys to a billion dollar franchise) why take thr risk?

    • Brian Niemeier

All of the factors you mentioned make sense, and could certainly be in play, but as we've seen again and again, a primary end of SJW convergence is to ensure that women never face consequences for their bad decisions.

    "Poz"?

    • Unconcord

If that were helpful in this context, I never would have asked.
