Something strange is going on in the Amarillo area.
And it’s been caught on film.
Amarillo is enlisting public help in deciphering a strange image released by the Amarillo zoo.
On May 21 at approximately 1:30am, cameras on the perimeter of the zoo captured footage of an unknown object on the other side of the facility’s fence.
The silhouette of the object is unrecognizable, though what appears to be two long legs seem to support it from underneath.
Here’s what the game cameras captured:
The cryptic image has sent the internet into a flurry of speculation.
“Was it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A large coyote on its hind legs? A Chupacabra? It is a mystery – for Amarillo to help solve,” the government said in a light-hearted statement.
City officials took pains to reassure the public that no personnel or animals have been harmed, no property was damaged, and no break-in attempt was made.
Whatever the mysterious picture’s subject is, no evidence has yet surfaced that it’s broken any laws.

I’m not an expert in anatomy or cryptozoology, but it just looks too human to me. I expect it’s someone in costume or strangely dressed.
Some IFLS YouTuber donned a clever disguise that took advantage of the low light and the low resolution of the camera. He’ll eventually come forth to give a lesson about light and optics and to explain how little effort he needed to invest in his wolf suit. Lastly, without any self-awareness whatsoever, he will conclude with a sermon about the limitations of human senses and how only scientists have the intelligence and the training to investigate natural phenomena.
And he’ll probably come out as a furry.

The top half of the image suggests a cryptid, but the bottom looks like a pair of human legs. Based on the length of those legs, the top half the image seems far too short to be a human torso, but the key word there is ‘seems’. I’m assuming an upright posture, but perhaps that’s not a valid assumption. As the saying goes, “if you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras,” so while I wonder where the rest of the person is, I still expect this has more to do with a half-naked person taking a walk in the dark than anything more strange.
I’m not convinced cryptids can be photographed properly, possibly due to what they actually are, so when they appear “clear” like this my first reaction is to think it’s fake.
One interesting thing I’ve noticed after decades of amateur cryptid research is that the fake photos look pretty much like you’d expect, but the authentic ones almost never do.
It’s often more a matter of the setting than the subject.
It’s either a furry prank gone horribly wrong, or there’s some new game animal that needs to be bagged, tagged, and stuffed in the near future.
I actually live in amarillo, so I think I can make a bit of a guess as to what is going on.
The Zoo is in rather close proximity to the ghettos on the east side of town, so people wandering around the perimeter of it at night would not be difficult to believe. And if my memory serves me right, there was a bit of a weird fashion trend a few years ago where the hoods on hoodies were shaped like animal heads. (Not just on children’s hoodies, I saw a few of those worn by teens and young adults.)
My guess is that this is much like Andrew Phillips’s guess; It’s probably a half naked guy walking around in an animal hoodie without his arms in the sleeves.
That makes sense.
In fact, there have been rumors circulating in Chicago for years of break-ins and animal thefts at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
